Thousand Prayers

(1st Verse)
I tried to stand back
Took a good look at my perception
I tried to break the patterns
Glanced at all the things I measured
I could only feel the storms
Somehow I could never see
I wish you could take away the pain
You make it so hard to believe

Chorus:
I’ve read every line in the scripture
But I still tend to see the dark
I’ve said a thousand prayers
But I can still see a million pieces of my heart
Please forgive me, I don’t understand
I’m not a savior, I’m just a man.

(2nd Verse)
I tried to take a step forward
All I seem to do is fall
I tried to search for the answers
on the other side of the wall
I could only feel light fading
Maybe I need to change my point of view
I wish you could change the way I think
So that I can fully understand you

(Bridge)
Tell me God
How can I love myself
Tell me God
How can I see something you only can
Tell me God
How can I see words that I can’t feel
Tell me God
How do I read something I don’t understand

Chorus:
I’ve read every line in the scripture
But I still tend to see the dark
I’ve said a thousand prayers
But I can still see a million pieces of my heart
Please forgive me, I don’t understand
I’m not a savior, I’m just a man.

  1. This post seemed to be hiding till now. Lovely but sad words.

I will tell you from personal experience that I knew I had to love myself, but I struggled to do it. One thing helped me. I had to start being a friend to me. I cut others a break when they messed up and I had to do the same for me. If I F-ed up I would forgive myself instead of berating myself.(Super hard to do when you are used to cussing yourself out every day.) It was SO hard not to say those bad things when I messed up, but I would catch myself and tell myself it’s okay.
It gets easier, but if this is a lesson you have to learn prepare to be tested. That means you will hit several moments in life where you will want to go back to your old ways. It will feel like HUGE mistakes, but if you can keep calm and give yourself compassion it will get better and the issues will go away.

    1. I wrote these lyrics thinking of a friend. It’s easy to believe in God when things are good but when things bad it’s easy to question faith and God. Once you start doing that you begin to become critical of yourself and choices. So we are saying the same thing! But thank you for insight and comment!
